3 Garage Door Repairs Your Garage Door Might Need During Its Lifetime

Your garage door may need to have repairs at some point in its life, especially when it's older. Springs, rollers, tracks, and other parts can wear out and cause your door to get stuck in the opened or closed position. You'll probably need a garage door repair professional to figure out what's wrong with your door and fix the problem. Here are three garage door repairs you could need.

1. Fix The Sensors

Your garage door has sensors near the bottom of the door that act as a safety feature. There is a sensor on each side, and one sensor sends a beam of light across to the other one. If the other sensor can't detect the beam, the door won't close. If your dog was under the door and blocking the beam, the door would stop so it wouldn't close on your pet.

When the sensors are out of alignment or malfunctioning, a beam may not be sent or detected. In that case, your door won't close. The garage door repair person may need to align the sensors with each other or replace them if they're not working.

2. Replace Or Lubricate Rollers

The rollers on your garage door will probably wear out before the rest of the door does unless you rarely use your garage. The rollers go up and down the track with each use, so they eventually wear down. If the track conditions are rough, the rollers may wear out sooner. The track and rollers need regular maintenance. The track should be cleaned regularly so debris doesn't get caught under a roller, and rollers need to be lubricated so they glide easily.

The track may need to be tightened occasionally too, since the wear and tear it gets can cause screws to come loose. When a track is loose, your door can get noisy or a roller could jump out of the track. If that happens, call a garage door repair company right away, since a door that's uneven or out of the track might be hazardous.

3. Replace The Spring

Replacing a garage door spring is another fairly common garage door repair. This repair is dangerous to undertake if you're not a garage door repair person. The spring is wound tight and is under tension, so you must be careful working with it. A spring can sometimes stretch out or it can snap. If the spring isn't working properly, it should be replaced. If the spring snaps, it won't be able to open your door any longer, so getting quick repairs is necessary.
